The book includes rich visual materials (about 300 illustrations). Biographies of the service weapons owners are supplemented by archive photographs and documents. It includes an analysis of technological and constructional developments in the range of edged weapons and firearms employed in action by the crews of Russian naval vessels. It also covers the production of various sorts of gunpowder, and of paper and metal cartridges, the variety of gun locks and methods of igniting charges and describes practical recommendations given in the nineteenth century for the care and storage of weapons on Russian naval vessels.</p> <p style="text-align: left;">The author has drawn extensively on materials from the Russian State Naval Archives, the Central Naval Museum and the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps.
